Job Purpose:
Responsible for general ledger activities of Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. which includes coordination of monthly closing and reporting activities for Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Besides month-end tasks this consists of mid-month activities and contribution to the APL Finance Initiatives agenda.
Deliver high quality reporting with insightful financial information for key stakeholders.
Deliver strong reporting / decision support for FRA Managers.
Providing support during the IRIS implementation for APL and perform the relevant activities related to it.
Major Accountabilities:
• Accountability for coordination of the monthly close process and general ledger ac-counting activities for Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd, including accruals, provisions, royalties, scientific office expense review, etc.
o Responsibility for application of the Novartis Accounting Manual.
o Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and new requirements according to the Novartis Accounting Manual (NAM).
• Leading role in timely submission of financial information including general ledger and FCRS for Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd. This includes a close coordination with other de-partments such as Inventory, Intercompany, Customer Service, Supply Chain teams etc.
• Ensure high quality monthly reporting through processes such as Balance Sheet and P&L review
• Responsibility for preparation and review of Balance Sheet accounts reconciliations in line with quality Novartis standard
o Leading role in review and coordination of entire process of reconciliations
o Strive for best practices and efficiency
• Responsibility for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls as per Novartis Financial Controls Manual
o Promote a “strong and no exception” control environment and operate according to Standard Operating Procedures
• Preparation and/or review of additional external reporting requirements such as Swiss National Bank statistics
• Key contact person for external auditors providing data and reports required for group and statutory audits
• Change Management & Projects
o Pro-active identification of opportunities to improve and optimize existing finan-cial processes and leading role in projects designed to implement these im-provements
o Lead finance related process changes to achieve best practice by proactively identifying gaps to standards, initiating and formulating change projects with IT and Finance management
o Be point of reference and expertise in the area of FRA for initiatives and projects led by other departments or sites
o Lead Accounting and Reporting projects to increase effectiveness and efficiency
o Proactively manage project status, potential gaps and next steps to ensure objec-tives are met
Support for IRIS implementation:
• Ensure correct process , solution implementation, documentation and training in follow-ing areas :
o chart of accounts,
o asset and general ledger accounting
o intercompany accounting
o reconciliation and month end closing processes
o group and statutory reporting supported by BI
• Inputs/information of process/master data enhancements and changes and cleansing master data (GL related)
• Support for R2R Data Migration, validation and reconciliation
Ideal Background:
• Bachelor degree in Business Administration , Accounting or Finance
• At least 5 years’ experience in a Finance role with focus on General Accounting in an in-ternational company
• Hands on experience with Accounting, Month End Closing and Reporting with Internal Controls
• Strong understanding of Alcon business processes, Novartis Finance Core processes and group reporting tools; knowledge of IRIS is a plus.
• Strong organization and communication skills demonstrated by results in cross function-al, multi-cultural activities. Ability to drive for results and meet project deadlines.
• Proven ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and work in team, to initiate and implement process changes
• Challenge the status quo and always look for opportunities to simplify and enhance Fi-nance activities
• Ability to act in a complex, culturally diverse, changing business environment and project deadlines
• Knowledge of working on ERP systems
• English fluent
